there's a website dedicated to this crap because of the amount of springs in my area. i forget the name though so i'm super unhelpful. it's related to the carlsbad alkaline water crap though. i'd actually find it for you but i have been given food poisoning and have not slept.

I have a bunch of sites saved and PDFs, but most focus on big jobs rather than what you can do with limited carry weight and supplies. I know making a capped spring box with a plastic barrel is easily possible, and if the info I have dated 35 years ago is right then I'm only digging a few cubic feet, but all the instructions I've found are way more modernized than that kind of thing.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to wing it once I get there.

get some of that black landscaping cloth or plastic.

its comes in rolls and its light so carrying it in would be no problem.

just dig out a basin line the bottom with the cloth, replace some soil and let settle.

and then if you want to pipe water some place, you can get a small 12v pump with a solar panel and some of that black flex tubing stuff or use gravity.

the hunting lodge I use has its water come from a spring that uses gravity to pipe water down to the cabin. we use a propane water heater out of a RV to boil the water before its pumped into a army surplus water tank for storage.

A lot of that would come later. Depending how the land is after I get a feel for it, I'll probably build either a mechanical pump, or a pipe and valve with an overflow pipe. But I'm not even thinking about that now. This is only an expedition so I can see what I'm dealing with, and preparing the area for other wimps who don't want to rough it that extreme.

Really? Because I was wondering what he meant, and now you've clarified that for me. Thank you good sir, thank you.

if you own the land, just build over the spring, this way people can't get to your source of water and hides it. and make it part of your house or home site.

That's an incredibly stupid comment for various reasons, but thank you for your input. Since you're city folk, I don't hold it against you.

Most of society couldn't make it to this land. They'd all cannibalize each other well and far away.

We had a spring back in PA. What a giant pain in the ass.
