Was your download big (12 Mb)? Did you delete the bin file or write over your existing bin?
My file is everything except a version file. It is done that way so no matter what version we get up to the download will continue to work as long as you are current and just replace the files using the zip.

My problem was, I think, that with an old version file the game kept wanting me to update.

That is why I don't include the version file. If you are running the current version and overwrite everything with the zip file you will rollback fine. If you grabbed it early on though I hadn't pulled the version file yet or patched in Misa's. Now it is all done and patched up and ready to roll.

That's what got me. I wasn't trying a full rollback so my version file was old. Other than that error on my end the files you provided worked great.

If anyone mucks it up like I did the link to the version file is http://arazu.net/minecraft/version To sum it up; you need the files Steel thankfully posted. But, if your version file is outdated the game will try to update your client. If that happens just replace your version file with the one I linked to. I'll try my best to keep it current.

It is staying at 1.2 for the foreseeable future. It will get to 1.3 eventually I'm sure but I'm in no rush. Easy enough to downgrade though using the files/steps at mc.omnikrys.com if you still want to play on the server.
