The old map was huge too but it wasn't restricted to a ram drive. Really two different issues. The size is what was killing the rdiff rollback and recovery but it is also an issue with the ramdisk I setup too.

RAM Disk makes for easy back and forth of data; but when you use it up you're kinda screwed.

Not really unless you're talking totally out of available memory. In this case I was using a microcore prebuilt distro called mineos. Too much happened in the background and micro/tiny core lacks too many features for me to be able to just reconfigure everything. It is nice for what it is but it is too restrictive for me to tweak it like I want. That and, honestly, there is a lot of it I don't understand or can't get to. Has to do with it being designed absolutely minimal... so much so I can't even run an fsck on the drive that needs fixing.

Whatever happens, I enjoy the people more than the game so if we have to start over I'm fine with it. Hopefully we wont have to, but either way, I'll be back!

Around 5 am I decided I needed some sleep, lol. It did me good though refreshed and data freshly compiled in my brain I have the server back up... I think. Problem is I can't connect to it. For that matter I tried connecting to a random server and timed out there too. Looks like mc.net might be down.
Can you guys hit up the minecraft forums and try to connect to a couple random servers to see if there is something up with minecraft.net? In the meantime I am doing a refresh of the world directory but am pretty much ready to get us back online.

think it's minecraft.net tried connecting to the steam one and no such luck
