Zombe's Modpack (I only use the "safe" mod which shows you where you need to light for safety)

Optifine (helps with speeding things up, allows HD textures, but if you just want the HD textures you can use MC Patcher)

Waiting to see if it was plugins that were crashing the server. It looks like it might be... it has been stable since I took them down. *knock on wood*

BTW, if you ever need to locate an NPC Village just run around on a superflat map with structures on...
