Bring a bed to the nether, set up your bed... now click to get in

I've yet to find any diamond since 1.8, so no nether portal.

I made my first portal on this map before I had diamonds.
Make a couple buckets (or 10) fill them with lava.
Make a form out of dirt for the base of the portal, put a lava source in both spots. Pour a bucket of water so that it flows across the base and pick it up again for reuse. Make the next level of the form, and repeat till you have the portal shape done. Clear out the forms, and light it.
This doesn't work on the nether side since you can't use water there.

this, it's better than wasting soo much time picking obsidian.

Plus however long it takes to find diamonds, fall in lava with them, swear, rage quit, find diamonds again, get lost on the way back, get blown up by creeper, find diamonds again and make it home with them.
Or is that not how everyone does it?
