Do a fresh install of the current version then replace the minecraft.jar with the 1.8 one. Should work fine.

I crashed it again right away so I just deleted the world and made another. (Not a rage quit.  )

Still haven't crashed yet though I did get wave after wave of creepers. I had a friggin crater going that was getting deeper faster than I could fill it until they finally got me down and killed me, lol.

The mines are neat. Mine had a zombie spawner in it, and then a spider.
1/2 heart left, poison and healing from full bar were even, but I lived. (Plying on Normal)

Yeah I ran into a huge abandoned mine... won't be hurting for tracks or string.

Wow exploring will be a blast with the new terrain generator and all these ruins and stuff. I am so lost in this abandoned mine I have to dig up to get the hell out, lol. My inventory is full of good stuff (coal, iron ore and tons of crap from those chests I kept finding) so I need to get back to my base.

I haven't had any crash problems yet
I eventually died in this huge mine shaft  i r eally wish there was a cure for Poison you can't even eat while poisoned
