Faced with unplayable and unrelenting lag issues after 4.0.1, I was forced to cancel my account and let the days slowly tick away until, alas, I cannot play/post anymore.

Spent a good 15 hours researching what the problem was and after figuring it out, was told by my ISP that it was blizzards fault and then by blizzard that it was my ISP's fault.

A polarized political battlefield where the customer is always wrong.

If you are experiencing horrible lag during peak hours after 4.0.1 and have troubleshooted your problem to no avail, you're probably lagging because of traffic shaping.

Long story short, blizzard changed their network code in a way that confuses the ISP's latency performance tuner into thinking that your wow connection is P2P data download, so its given bottom of the barrel priority in the queue and you may experience varying degrees of horrendous lag and/or disconnects.

No you can't have my stuff.

That sucks man. Find a new ISP if you can obviously.

I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Well it's a good thing you only got to 61. Really not walking away from much of an investment. Stop blaming Blizzard. It is not their fault. It is your ISP.

Hmmm...traffic shapers by themselves are a good thing. Are you sure your ISP didn't interpret the patch download (which was gigabytes, after all) as P2P (which it is), and simply put either your line or anything connected to Blizzard on a "bad boy" list? What you're describing isn't traffic shaping, it's classification.

Good luck...

That is your ISPs fault for using crappy QoS software to discourage p2p use. There are better ways, and better ISPs. This is absolutely not Blizzard's fault in any way whatsoever. Sorry that you lose though.

Can't you turn off that background downloader by running WoW.exe directly though?

Well the games been fully downloaded for forever and I have p2p turned off.
I even turned off IPv6 just to be damn sure I wasn't uploading p2p data and that still had no effect.

Though this wouldn't matter anyways, because of their traffic'ing software it would normally give wow game data top priority over any p2p data including the blizzard background downloader.
Thus the problem is that the wow game data itself is being misinterpreted as p2p.

Every primetime the wow tech support forums explode with latency complaints, and I have recognized the symptoms for this, and blizzard is not very good at diagnosing it. So many people are effected by this and don't even know it, so they don't even know enough to know where to begin. All they know is after 4.0.1 they can't play wow anymore.
