For all around most 5-man/raid utility and damage, which would play the better rolls? WHat class would you rather have in your group if you could only pick one?

I vote mage. Now take it with a grain of salt I have not paid either for a long time, but I did play both to 70.

I say mage because you get

Portals

Food/Water

And the way I look at the balancing, and someone with more knowledge please correct me if I am wrong, I have always felt with pet classes that they have the potential to be less potent then non-pet classes. My reasoning here is if the classes are true balanced (yeah yeah yeah that is another thread) then part of your classes damage potential is in your pet. If for whatever reason your pet is killed, disabled, whatever your over all damage potential and ultility are comprimised.

If you don't have a pet then all of your potential is available to you at all times.

Mage's seem to be kings of the DPS charts now so I would lean in that direction.

Right now, mages are the kings of DPS. As far as utility, that's up in the air of opinion.

Warlocks offer portals from a location, healthstones, indirect rezzes, and fear.

Mages offer portals to a location, mana (crack), and polymorph . . . if I recall.

Personally, despite what you'll hear, I recommend warlock. Unless you're certain of a group all the time, warlocks still solo things most mages wouldn't dream of taking on.

Demonology is no joke if done right.

But, for a 5-man raid? Yes, mage. Just hope your tank knows how to hold aggro.

Just my humble opinion.

For soloing elite quests = warlock
For everything else = mage

Other than being ranged casters, they're totally different play-styles. They're both a lot of fun IMO... if anything tilts me towards mage, it's that I just don't like managing pets very much, and good warlocks have to make good use of their pets.

lol it's pretty apparent that most people in this thread have never played an Arcane Mage.

By far the most boring class I have ever played.
