I will never understand the thought process behind rendering an expansion that someone paid $40 just two years ago virtually worthless. I guess it's a winning strategy for Blizzard, and it's hard to argue with results, but I always felt a bit nostalgic for the "old content" after BC and Wrath were released. There was soooooo much quality gaming IMO that people were missing out on in places like Silithus and Eastern Plaguelands because it was a complete waste of time to do that content once BC was released. Same for the higher level Outland content post-Wrath. And now Northrend will be a ghost town. Such a shame.

And sequels for games that come out every year, with a price tag of $60 for 5-10 hours of play.

Well I started playing shortly before TBC was realeased. I stopped playing (shortly) around the time ZA was put out in a patch. When I came back 2 weeks before Wrath came out I was only level 35+. I never had a chance to really get in to outland, so when I hit 70 I stayed till 80 and got my loremaster. Now I'm 80 and I've still not done a lot of the quests in Northrend....why? Because I maxed out at 80 and saw no point in doing more quests other than faction rep quests. So now that Cata is realeased I want to go do those quests.

Do it in Cata imo, the quests are infinitely better.

Here is a rough idea how much better cata gear is. My level 78 pally purchsed a green cata weapon and 2 pieces of green cata armor. His health went up from 17k to 23k, and his dps up about 50%
