80-85 Northrend????? |
So I was pondering something. What if a person wanted to level thier toon 80-85 through Northrend...strictly. If that person is geared out in T10s (ilvl251) when that person gets to 85 will he/she be able to run heroic Cata dungeons?
Will GS keep that person back?
Will that person be handycapped?
Is there that much of a divide for 80 T10s and 85 trash?

Blizzard changed it just a couple days ago so that mobs give level 80 players 10% of the XP they used to give. They did this at 60 for classic content, 70 for BC content and 80 for WoTLK content.
So, good luck with that.

Thank you. It was nice ot have an answer. However, the basis of the question was brought on because I leveled my toon from 70-80 strictly through Outland. When I did get to Northrend I only did faction quests. (Sons of Hodir for the shoulder ench, Knight of the Ebon BLade for the helmet ench, Kirn Tor, Wyrmrest, AT dailies, etc.)
So I was wondering if this was repeatable. I guess there is no penalty walking into Hyjal for the first time as an 85.

As Sly pointed out, Blizzard changed xp gains from mob kills in previous content, so if you try to level in Northrend 80-85, you only gain 10% of their worth. One can also assume that the quests are not worth much either, and you ought to keep in mind the fact that just 84->85 alone takes over 9 million xp.
On the other hand, if you want (for some reason) to avoid questing in Cata areas, you are still able to level via instances, via Archaeology, and mining + herbing.
Also: your 251 gear is already surpassed by lvl 81 gear (on beta I had already thrown away all of my 277 gear with lvl 81-83 crafted greens+blues), and each level increases the gear gap pretty quickly.
Finally: the game is less forgiving about allowing you to enter instances you're not geared for... if your avg ilvl isn't high enough, you simply won't be allowed to enter. Not even for normals.
