I am a bit sick of bioware games. I think I own about every single one, but a couple. The last one I wasted money on due to playing it very little. After DAO, I was overdosed with it.

I know this may be blasphemy, but I have no desire whatsoever to try the new (or any other) Star Wars games. I am a casual fan (at best) of the Star Wars brand and I think Galaxies may have ruined any excitement I may have ever felt for a Star Wars game. I still think that game was the worst MMO I ever played, although Asheron's Call 2 was a bigger disappointment for me personally.
I base all my opinions on previously branded games made by entirely different companies.
IGN also had a good, positive preview recently too and their previous commentary was less than flattering. I would guess we won't see TOR until holiday 2011, but it appears to be heading in the right direction ... at least Bioware is trying to fix the broken crafting game design that WoW and previous MMOs all adhered to.

So what I'm gathering from this hands-on preview is:
It's not doing anything better than current decent MMO's (meh)
Combat feels like WoW, except a bit more epic because of the battle music.(lolwut)
Classes don't actually need to depend on each other in group situations. (meh)
Parts of the MMO aspect of the game is watching zombies stand around listening to NPC's drone on endlessly. (meh)
Instances so far consist of pointless trash mobs, boring boss fights and 30 minute dialog tree cutscenes. (boring)
You also have a good chance, thanks to RNG, to be subjected to the lowest common denominators dialog choices ruining your story experience. (no thanks)
So the whole game is still entirely hanging on the 'innovation' of non-stop NPC voiceovers? I'm still not seeing a reason to play this.

I like that they game will still be using the holy trinity of tank/dps/heal. Yes they have some differences (ranged tank anyone) but all in all this should be a very comfortable game for WoW players to pick up.

Does it matter if there isn't some huge innovation? Most people just want something new that compares to WoW and doesn't suck like Aion/WAR/AofC/Whatever.
If they accomplish that task, millions will play.
If they don't, millions will buy it and quickly quit after a couple months.

I survived to the end and got nothing out of it, but hey.

Note that "compares to WoW" doesn't mean "WoW clone", something others have believed and have utterly failed with. Compares to WoW means same playability, same combat dynamism, same responsiveness, same quality, same finish, same talent in designing areas and quests. Idiots mistake that for a WoW clone, not understanding it's a mistake to clone the master. The first smart developer will be the one able to imitate that without making a WoW clone.

SWTOR: 50 Jedi Shadow (Tank), 50 Sith Marauder (Annihilation).
LOTRO: Lifetime account, playing very casually.
WoW: Both accounts canceled for now.
GW2: Future Warrior.

I think that's a hilariously embarrassing mis-design. Who were the tanks in the Star Wars movies? Who were the healers? It's been a while since I watched them but I can't remember.

^^ this. The bar has been set so low, a game only has to be halfway decent to ensure a measure of success (LotRO comes to mind).

I enjoy bashing without suggesting solutions.
I also enjoy tea party logic too. Everything should adhere strictly to some standard from a long time ago and not adapt to a new age.
Everything I've read recently has been positive and also addresses some of the core MMO problems in games like WoW. Either people aren't reading the articles, can't comprehend them or are just trolling.

I thought the holy trinity was Tank/Heal/CC. The DPS is just assumed.
