Is this a cataclysm change? They seem to award about double what a regular mob would award, while slow going, it seems like it would be feasible to level entirely through gathering, exploring, and pvp.
It was changed in 4.0.3. My miner/herb character has got nearly 2 levels in my minimal farming >_<

Archeology does as well.
Picked it up yesterday on my dwarf pally just to see what it was like... darn thing is addicting! It IS a nice "down time" activity.
Knew I was getting exp but wasn't paying much attention, suddenly I've got 20% of a level for flying around STV, Badlands and Hinterlands.
edit: that's at 80, and just starting out.

I'm surprised they don't just implement a constant exp rate where you gain X amount of exp per second depending on your level as long as you're logged in.
Better yet, maybe you could just type in what level you want to be during character creation...

Heh, sorry, there was a thread here a couple weeks ago about this. It seems more recent to me than anyone else I believe because I was on vacation and didn't even look at a computer for a week, only returning this past Wednesday.

My mining is now maxed out and i was getting 4800 xp a pop when I mined.
It does not really add up to that much extra xp, less than 1/4 of a level after 80.

Archeology also uses rested xp (don't know about the other skills). I was getting over 10k each try at 76 and leveled to 77 just on archeology one day. After I ran out of rested it dropped to 5k as expected. Doing the same on a character in the mid-60s the xp was about half as much so the reward certainly varies with level. I don't know if they ever published the formula or any sites worked it out.
