The best is when you see an herb 10 feet away, and then as you run right up to it, it disappears. So then you take 5 steps back, it appears, you dart forward to try to pick it, and it's gone...

Yeah, that happens more often than it should.

Wait, what is this phasing? It's like pseudo instancing? I'll have to go read about this...

It's basically Blizzard trying to turn WoW into Warcraft IV

So you can be in the same place as another player, not in an instance, but if you're not on the same quest, you don't see each other? Like little pockets of instanced world?

Exactly.

Since WoW leveling is almost an entirely single-player game anyway, most of the playerbase likes it. As an MMO veteran mysefl, who (check my sig), I find its over-use to be pretty terrible.

I never had a difficult time solo questing without phasing, so although a cool little idea, I don't really see the NEED for it. I can only remember having to wait for a respawn because of somebody else questing before me a handful of times. I liked having the option of friends coming to help me even if they've already completed the quest... it promotes comradery and some quests were just difficult for me to solo because of my class or whatever and I actually NEEDED help.

I haven't played in a couple years, and I've never experienced "phasing" that I know of, so I can't speak to it from personal experience, but although the coding sounds cool, I don't think I would be in favor of it. Generally speaking anyway...

Anyone try following or being followed in a phasing zone? Good grief AF goes off every 10 feet in some spots.

friend: Afk, on AF

me: sorry, AF won't work

friend: why not, we have the exact quests and will be right next to each other?

me: valid question, don't know. GC probably has a good blog answer when he's done saying threat is in the game.

I think you really have to see it to pass judgement.

In Wotlk I thought it was pretty damn cool to see how friendly/enemy lines get moved because of my actions and how the areas changed because of it.

It has it's downsides but I love some of the upsides as well.

Icecrown was great.

But when you can't follow your friend across a zone where you have the same quest log with the same quest progression it's time for them to take a step back.
