How long did it take you? Yeah, it's different for everyone, just curious how much of your time has been spent 'digging'. I find Archaeology to be boring as hell, but stuff like that make me continue to do it. lol

I basically leveled archeology only in the Eastern Kingdoms up to 450, and I saved ALL my troll fragments on the way up. I had like 1500 troll fragments to turn in when I hit 450, turned them in and (luckily) the second turn in gave me that HUGE sword.
Since I basically only leveled on Dwarf and Fossils, along with a very few night elf frags, I also got two pets (Clockwork Gnome and Fossil Raptor), the Fossil Raptor ground mount, and also some funny item that spawns dwarves dancing a sword dance. Oh, and also an epic level 78 night elf robe my priest will love to level up, since the items are bind on account.
 Archeology!

The 3 pre-85 Epic items are absolute garbage. They're outdated 2 levels before you can even use them.

Very nice =)
Highly recommend people don't try for one of the 85 weapons specifically. Chances of getting them are LOW, even with lots of time invested. Think of them as a bonus. If you want to do archaeology for the achievements and fluff and because you enjoy it, that's great... but don't go for the weapons. It's likely to be a miserable experience.

I agree totally, BUT you can still augment your chances of getting the weapon you want by using the tactic I used, keeping all the parts of the race you want the item from until you hit 450 skill, which is the minimum skill to get level 85 rares/epics. Then you burn them all. You are still not assured to get something, but you greatly increase your chances.
