All the Blizzard insiders selling login info talk got me to do something a bit petty.
I started a 2 accounts before the expansion for RaF. Both without authenticators. One account was played on a laptop I had just bought that I used for nothing but WoW for 2 weeks while leveling up via RaF. Outside of downloading Microsoft Security Essentials it never visited the internet. Second account is still active through February. I created a gmail account solely to register these two accounts.
Point was, was going to use that account as the example of an expired unhacked account every time you guys brought up someone at Blizzard selling account information.
Almost 30 days to the date of my last day logging on I got an email on my phone on the email account created to register the game. Looked like a standard phishing email so I deleted it but figured I would check the account when I got home and see how it was doing.
Permanently banned.
I know people will just argue both sides about "see this is proof" and "obviously you weren't as careful as you thought", but from my vantage point it is good enough for me. My second RaF account without an authenticator is just ducky. My banking information, email, and other game accounts have demonstrated no reason for me to be alarmed. Nothing goofy is showing in my logs and nothing has shown up as an alert in my scans. Sure it's possible there's something on the laptop I'm just not smart enough to detect, but you'd think they would have grab the other RaF account as well. Only difference is it's still active another few weeks.
Odd secondary issue I don't completely understand. Password was not changed. Either Blizzard changed it back when they locked it, or whoever got into it never bothered changing the password. Password, as of a few minutes ago, was the same for both accounts. No big loss on the account, had a token 100 gold on it and 1 level 60.
Reminder to everyone to get an authenticator no matter how secure you feel your machine is. New, behind a firewall, and not visiting any websites seemed pretty secure to me. Heck, it hasn't even been connected to the LAN in 3 weeks as I've had it connected to my TV since the expansion launched.
Anyhow, not going to reply to this post. Just wanted to man up and say "guess I was wrong"
