I was reading the main board a few minutes ago (1/1/11 @ 11:20 am EST) and was redirected to a fake antivirus site. Not sure what the ad was that redirected me but it was a mouseover. Alt F4 brought me through to another page instead of killing Chrome.

I will send a message to the board admins next.

But thanks for the warning for those who don't use those basic precautions.

Yea, not infected here. I was able to kill the process before it tried to download anything.

Your idea of basic isn't very basic. The average user most likely will not be using those addons, IF they even use firefox.

How can they call it common sense when it isn't very common

The equivalent exists for Chrome too.
And yeah, it's basic precautions. With those, you're pretty safe from any kind of ad infection.

Just like when there's snow on the road, a basic precaution is to use chains, or at least appropriate tires. Yet many people still don't do it - it's nonetheless a basic precaution

I be willing to be less people use those items than people that do use them. I have yet to see them used in a business environment (I worked for DoD until last month). You may consider it basic but the average user most likely does not even know about them.
