Recently got this and started playing(still learning).

Played a few Single Player games, only managed to win one

Can never seem to find a Multiplayer game though, probably because they go for hours.

If anyone here plays and is up for a game sometime, I'd like to have a go at it.

Also if you are pretty good at it I could use some more advanced tips. I think I got the basics down mostly.

Bought it, played it for all of 10 days. Grew to hate it with a passion. Will never even look at a Civ product again.

A month before Cata came out I canceled WoW and bought Civ 5 expecting that even if it was not that good I could live with playing it for a month. 10 days later I wrote my "Civ 5 sucks, farewell" speech on the Civ forums. What a waste of effort.

I won't waste any more of my time by explaining in detail all the problems but being forced to install Stream was a BIG part of my dis-satisfaction.

If you have not bought it yet do not waste your money. Their good days are WAY in the past.

I played few weeks. It's not as good a Civ IV BtS. In fact you should lurk on Civ Fanatics Forum to learn more about this game.


It's a great franchise but some thinks it's going down. The new 1upt (one unit per tile) is not such a great idea and the engine needs work (marathon game on huge map are extremely laggy at end game).


It is also way to easy. I can win without difficulty at Prince level while I needed a lot of practice in the former incarnation of Civ to beat the AI.


I really hope they will fix all the issues but some basic design decisions might not be fixable; a good read about this could be found here.


They lost the lead designer few weeks ago so could the current staff fix the game? We shall see.

from what I've read the AI doesn't have a clue how to take advantage of the one unit per tile thing, so basically they messed up the franchise with it.

I love 4 but 5 has not enticed me at all so far from reading it over.

I just ordered 4, read about 5 and it has gotten terribad reviews.

I find Civ 5 to be a step forward from Civ 4 but still not up to the level of Civ 2.

I dislike Civ 5. I am a peaceful researcher, laying low and paying for peace until i break out and slaughter everyone. I played that way since Civ2 and that is not a way to play in Civ 5. Worst game of the franchise.

Ya, installing Steam sucks. I never wanted to touch it, ever. But wanted to try out Civ 5, so meh.

I'm new to the series, as I prefer RTS games like Company of Heroes and Starcraft. So I don't know what the older ones were like.

Can't seem to find anyone to play multi with though, so will probably end up not playing it anymore soon :o

Nope. Didn't even know Civ V was out. Love Civ IV. Absolutely love it.
