Yep, they stole all the worse from WoW, and made it even worse. Not only their quests are bland and unimaginative, but they also lack the variety, humor and story lines of WoW. Rift is kinda Warhammer II, but without any improvement except adding some random events called "Rifts", which aren't even that new anyway, in hope to be able to call it "revolution" and attract some people.

Not that I'm onboard with all the RIFT is a WoW killer speak mind you, but what I really like about RIFT is the character customization with the class trees. I feel like WoW took a step in the wrong direction streamlining all the talent trees so that there basically is little choice involved. Sure, it keeps n00bs from doing stupid things, but for me, that micromanagement of my character stats is fun. On the other hand, Ayla thinks I'm loony for enjoying that stuff, so to each their own.

So I recently started using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) and all of a sudden my account keeps being locked and having to reset my password.

Evidently if you log in from different IP addresses your account will be auto-locked and will have to go through this procedure every time you log in.

Billing sent me a cut-and-paste blandishment saying ... well, nothing. Then tried to sell me their dongle.
Evidently they do not allow their customers to not be groped by their TSA goons.

So my choice is either not use a basic Internet privacy service or change my password each time I log into WoW.

Some choice.

You can call Blizzard and let them know that you connect from multiple IPs from a certain block, or what not, and they will flag your account. I had a friend who traveled a lot due to military reasons, and Blizzard was more than accommodating.

VPN/Tunneling service is quite mandatory for people outside US as it can cut down latency by 50% or more.

I got used to the account locked -> reset password crap for couple of months now.

It's kinda silly that even when I have an authenticator, and I only rotate my connection among at most 3 IPs, each time my IP is different from the last login, the dumb detection script will just kick in and locked your account.

To make matter worst, each time you unlocked your account, you will need to go through the Secret Question/Answer form. If my machine has been compromised, this info would have been keylogged and stolen. And my account will be as good as gone.

I did not play RIFT beta, but I can clearly second that thing about the WoW talent trees being streamlined - in fact, way too streamlined. Regardless of the class balance pain, flexibilty > simplicity; so RIFT has +1 just for the flexibility.

In other words, RIFT is pulling the "sub-spec" stuff, which is just cool in my eyes. I don`t know if it still has the mirror class procedure like in WoW but at least you have a wide spectrum to choose from.

WoW Rogue for instance has been way too narrowed-down.

So I am glad something new is coming.

WoW stole almost all of its tech from other games then built on it. This has been common knowledge since beta, leading me to believe you're either a complete moron or the worst troll to ever grace this board. I'm leaning toward both.

As far as the quests, did you even read them? RIFT isn't a cartoony fantasy world like your beloved WoW, it's a world facing destruction and you're there to save it. So yea, there's gonna be lots of quests to kill baddies and help reassemble broken machinery. That's what you do in a war torn world.

The rift content itself is one of the most dynamic PvE designs we've seen in an MMO to date, not to mention the game has been more polished in beta than most at launch. I've experienced literally no crashes or glitches while testing. Graphics are beautiful, the world is stunningly scenic and realistic. Sound is incredible, there's always something going on around you. If not, you know something is about to be going on and you may want to find high ground.

You need to log out of Azeroth for a month or two and come back to the real world.

Weird. I play WOW from home, from VPN, and from work, all with very different IP address. And never had to change my password.

I love WOW, but I kinda look forward to playing an MMO without cheesy and gimmicky humor like WOW. It's nice and I think it's worked great for WOW, but not entirely my thing I suppose.

Totally agree. A person is smart, but people are stupid. The current design is for the majority, which is unfortunate.

Maybe it's nostalgia, but I miss CoH where you could mix and match. You might end up with something that was broken, but that was part of the learning process.
