Agreed. It be cool if more of the items were at least fluff or cosmetic, but I suppose the rares and epics are to balance the lack of 'useful' finds.

This gets posted and responded to on the official forums every so often. There are quite a few fluff items in the game if you look for them.

Also, the story above about Pally's guild mate made me cry more than laugh.

The most stupid item you can get with archeology has to be the dwarf chalice.

The gray items are a huge disappointment / a bit insulting.

They should've been some sort of currency you could spend at an archaeology vendor, and/or just been worth a decent amount of gold.

Truth, unlike other professions. There is no possible profit with archeology. You just solve and hope to get an epic at the end.

I meant to say this in my original post, but forgot to till I read the new replies. It sort of goes with what I said though.

"Hey, great job finding that ancient dinosaur fossil and the priceless, never before seen troll mask! Now go and get rid of it to that vendor over there, he'll give you, maybe 10 silver."

Maybe they purposely make you sell the junk items so that they can then break up the pieces, and throw them back into those dig sites for other players to find lol.

I don't expect to make a ton of money off this profession. But it would be nice if items we found could really be donated to an NPC museum or something for reputation points or something. Even a lousy shirt that says "I dug up some cool artifacts and all Harrison Jones gave me was this hat!"

Oh I dunno, I love my dwarven baby socks. I have saved all of them on all my archeologists. I've had a few bronzed. The others, well, they were already Plate and size 16 and I got a hernia trying to put them in my vault.

It's a secondary profession. How rich does the average player get from fishing?

Do you think that is common (and do you know what people buy the fish for)? I see a half dozen players at every dig site I go to any time of day I log in. I see a few people fishing as I fly between all the dig sites, but it seems far more in archaeology. There are some common items in archeology that vendor for 1g to 9g so it isn't like they are all 10s.
