He is still an idiot for not using a good password along with an authenticator.

or more than likely he paid for a leveling service and was checking his character on armory or the like logging in the account from two completely different IPs, got it locked because of that and claimed a hack. Seen it a few times in guilds I have been members of, where the normally chatty guild member suddenly don't talk but is on all day.

Yeah, password guessing requires the hacker to at least know your battlenet id. Theses things don't grow on trees.

An ex coworker had a similar experience. He had, at that point, been playing WoW for about 6 months but he is supremely busy and has two kids, etc. Had quit for a few months but wanted to try Cata. So when they compromised his account he had a few characters around level 50 and nothing else. Blizzard restored his account in full, and he came back to a level 85 hunter with an absurd amount of gold (I want to say 30k? - when he had like 500 when he quit). He is a very happy camper, those fools did the work for him.

As I say to people in trade who state they have been hacked with a thanks attached to it.

Don't you have some computer security to work on?

Isnt a big deal if they empty your account and guild bank. Blizz will give you back everything you lost.

Am I the only one who understood and appreciated the intent of the OP?

Allow me to offer my humble interpretation...

'Once upon a time my friend got hacked but he got all his stuff back. The cool/funny part is the hacker leveled up his mining skill and got him a level in the process! It was also lucky or just dumb of the hacker to not clean out the guild bank. The end.'

Personally I thought the story was mildly amusing.

That's how I took it and got a chuckle.

Wonder if it was a noobie hacker and this was his first attempt and maybe he got distracted by playing with the "toy" he was supposed to swipe?

I took as this as well. How does your friend feel now? Like a real man? He got that hackers cherry and again..the 1st time wasn't great.
