I played briefly with a cabby/purifier/war but they've revamped soo much that the info would be useless now.
That's probably the combo I am going to try next. Happy to share if that happens.
You don't have to play with the druid pet. I've found though I can take 5 mobs and live (with use of heal potion) with the pet healing. I also like to use to range pull. And yeah, it's a flitty little thing. I don't remember seeing any male druids.

Was planning to make my main riftblade/reaver/war and I know I will definitely play one. Right now, my guild is gonna need a healer. And I've found the druid/sham/war has enough to make it through a PQ doing swapping betwee DPS/healing. Just...enough.
