Well, IMO that's because there is currently a fair amount of dissatisfacion with WoW amongst the board members and they are, once again, looking for something new. So far, nothing has measured up, but it won't (and shouldn't) keep people from searching.

I recently returned to WoW after playing pretty much every MMO out there, and once again find myself underwhelmed by WoW. In spite of being burned several times, I will most likely be trying a new MMO, Rift is currently the leading candidate.

Rift beta is a more polished game than WoW. My only concern with the game is what do people do at end-game? I've never been good at guessing that from betas in other games. Time will tell I guess. I found the leveling more fun.

Because it's new. Shiny.
People were thinking the same about Conan, Warhammer, etc... and guess where they came back after a month or two?
Leveling and quests are less imaginative and varied than WoW, you have none of the variations WoW introduced over the years.
You guys hate "kill 10 wolves and bring me their tails" in WoW? That's ALL what Rift is about. For now, of course.
I liked the stability and the "new" setting, but it's way too linear and boring to keep my interest any longer.

It isn't WoW that you are burned out on, it is MMOs in general. Why people think a new MMO is going to provide some sort new exciting experience that is different than what they have been doing is beyond me. Sure it will be "new" as you plow through the content of XXX new game in a couple weeks but after that it ends up being the same thing as everything else and will continue to be until someone develops a MMO with true dynamic content.

Exactly. this is why I'm not dropping WoW. I'm going to hold out until I know for sure that Rift is for me. I've been burnt too many times on too many other games. I have hope. I always have hope. I think for WoW I just need to convince myself to forget about PvP. It is a PvE game and the sooner I play how Ghostcrawler wants me to play... the sooner I'll enjoy the many changes.

What? I am tired of WoW myself, but Rift does not have the same Polish as WoW.

Not even close.

- better graphics (Not even close.)

- less lag (WoW may just be odd software glitches and not true lag. I'm not sure.)

- customizable UI (WoW needs addons to get what most people want.)

- etc.

What is your definition of polish in a game?

Disputable. Many like the cartoon stylish WoW graphics.

WoW is smooth as silk for me. No lag ever. But as I already said before, my Rift experience was also smooth and lag free.

Again, a matter of opinion and taste. WoW addons give way more powerful customization capabilities.

For me, Rift is a nicely wrapped box with not much inside. Polish is not only nifty graphics, or Conan would be king of the MMO now, and your other points are highly disputable. Polish is also in the content, and there WoW beats Rift to a pulp.

Rift is far more polished in beta than wow was at its release.

You can't compare a games polish that is still in beta to a game that has been out for 6 years.

You have long term memory problems. WoW in beta was smooth as silk.
Overpopulation at release caused problems, but that's unrelated.

As I said, the shiny new green grass always looks shinier and greener, even if it's full of cow dung and smells like crap
