I don't normally post here, and I certainly don't bit*h about things, but I'd like to ask the honest non troll community some things.
I've been a dps'er since '04, and within the last year I developed a Paladin tank, and have been tanking since lvl 15. I consider myself to be a decent tank, perhaps above average. Pre-Cata runs, I was always praised in groups for keeping folks breathing, and holding proper aggro as well as a knowledge of all the runs and encounters.
In Cata, I ran the dungeons fine, learning them from a Tank's perspective instead of a dps role. I've leveled 2 85's prior to the pally in these same runs. The bosses were familiar, but I had to learn them as a tank. Working out just fine again with minimal to no complaints from pug groups in the LFD. I ding 85, and run normal versions of the 3 remaining dungeons for the experience.
I buy starter tank gear from the AH, reforge and gem with lots of help from seasoned guild raid tanks. Now, NO FRESH 85 of any class can tank a Heroic from the start and be perfect. There is still plenty of gear to be had in hero blues tat needs collecting and enchanting, etc. Not to mention the hero version of the run is obviously much harder with variations of the normal boss encounters. Lets not forget Deadmines and SFK opening up as a Heroic ONLY option.
Rant aside, WTF do people expect you to be 100% perfect on each and every run? A seasoned player or even one with half a brain for details can see a relatively new tank entering the dungeon by inspecting the gear. People have to learn, and the only way is getting dirty.
I have literally entered a run (today, in fact), and was torn to shreds because I picked up the quests from the npc in Tol'vir. I've been called every name in the book thus far, and this is with completion of about half the heros to date under my belt. People aren't dieing in droves under me, but it is harder.
I really don't get it. Why the bloody hell are some of you people so unjustly cruel, and well, such assholes in heros? It wasn't like this when hero's were first intro'd into WoW, but it is now. Tanks are very much expected to be perfect, no mistakes of any kind, and if you do, you are Hitler. Eliteism is at an all time retarded high, and it's especially directed at tanks, IMO.
I've had groups where the Healer was healing the wrong person and not me, and I'd die and get BLASTED for it. I can only self heal so much, and in a heroic, it's really useless in general anyways.
Any other tanks have this issue? Are you still tanking? Oh and if you're going to troll, I won't even respond to you. I'm being serious in looking for serious opinions on this.
Thanks.

The game is such a hellacious grind now, and the overall sentiment of players irate (due to the grind and increased difficulty), that most have little patience. The gregarious, fun feeling of heroic running in Wrath has been replaced with the ugly affair it is now. So not only are lesser performing DPS characters the focus of grief, so are tanks that aren't over geared and know every instance and fight like the back of their hand.
It was fun being a tank or healer in Wrath. Now, even if I still played, I wouldn't touch either role.

Unfortunately the convenience of the dungeon finder often comes at the price of putting up with some truly horrible people. Your experience is in no way unique and explains the real reason that there are so few tanks who are still willing to queue for dungeons. I guess people think that they can get away with treating people horribly since there are no real repercussions for bad behavior and odds are you'll never see those people again.
It's experiences like the ones you describe that make me wonder why I still have an active sub. Some days it feels like I'm just paying for the privilege of being abused by children over the internet.
It seems like at this point in the game you have 2 options
1. Find a guild and only do anything with them
2. Get used to putting up with the bs that you described

I also tank in the rfd, but the difference between us is that I do so for my enjoyment, and if anyone wants to complain I WILL just leave them sitting there waiting for another tank.
You make an excellent point about being a "new" tank, and how people react, but I personally always reserve judgement on a new tank until I have inspected their gear, and or until the first wipe.
Anyone who immediately jumps down your throat for being "new" has more than likely never played a tank, and is looking to be carried anyway.
The bottom line? Step up, and tell those complaining to kindly STFU. If they don't, haul arse, and never look back. (except long enough to add said person to your ignore list, so that you will never be grouped with them again)

Thanks for the honest replies. I knew I wasn't alone, but damn. It's truly out of control with the hate, and I'm this close to never tanking out of guild again. The ironic thing is I random tank LFD so I can BE A BETTER TANK. Yet I'm hated cuz I'm not yet in iLvL 5000 gear. Sheesh.

This is the way Blizzard wants the game.

I heal heroic pugs exclusively pretty much I sometimes have 1-3 friends from my realm who will come along none of them tanks.I never inspect the tanks gear tbh I don't bother looking at the dps meter my main thing is the mobs die and the tank keeps the aggro off me and other squishes if they can do that then all is good by me/I tend never to get upset about wipes only time I will get upset about a wipe is if the blame game starts.I will usually always stick it out with a group even through multiple wipes so long as they people are nice and working on correcting it hell I went all way through Vortex heroic with a druid tank who had never even been in the instance even in normal version needless to say it was ugly with alot of bad pulls and wipes but the guy was trying and everything at some point needs to learn.

The dungeon finder was more or less what started killing the game off. Being able to queue with people you'd probably never see again from another server meant nobody had to be responsible for their own actions anymore. Welcome to World of Douchebaggery.
Combine that with people getting used to facerolling heroics in gear that was 50+ levels higher than the instances themselves (i219 content in i277 gear), then Cata plunging people back into instances that were unforgiving and with tons of lethal AoE everywhere in every fight, with limited mana pools on healers and the resulting intolerance for perceived (or real) sub-par performance or people who aren't "pro" (lol) gamers rose to pathological levels.
I suspect we'll eventually discover that A) the "B team" really was in charge after WotLK Icecrown instances went live, and/or B) they knew WoW would decline anyway so they started experimenting knowing they'd probably screw up but not caring as long as they kept things just good enough to keep the forecasts intersecting with the release of Diablo 3 and Titan.

Run with non prima donna people.
Most people you run with now, if you random will be complete tools. Sad, but true.

It was posted in another thread, a little comic about a normal guy + anonymity + audiance = idiot. And well it's true. The "community" in WoW is quite often not stellar, and you're going to get hit and miss groups. People are going ot be mean and rude "because they can" that's all there is to it. There's no reason not to be if their momma didn't teach them to be nice.
Now add ins ome raid geared peeps who've been there done that, they are above you. They are awesome. You suck if you're not at their level right now, on that particular toon! Seriously. /straight face
Yeah, there was a guy in a BG today inspecting peopel and yelling at them that they didn't know how to do BG's just because they weren't in full pvp gear. Dude, you gotta start somewhere. And who's to say that toon isn't an alt? And why buy it with gold when you can just get it with honor points? But nooo...you must suck if you're not doing the way they would.
That's something I'll never figure out.
