IIRC other than when bearform went super OPed, druids have consistently been one of the least played classes. While you are correct that players do tend to want to be able to do everything, the classes they gravitate towards are the ones that can do everything all at once, ie paladins (at some points at least). Druids specialize to only one and tend to be difficult to play well even for that one (other than bears), making them unpopular with the unwashed masses.
This is probably compounded by the poor models druids had to choose from up until cataclysm. The fact you had to be either a fruity or ugly nightelf, or a cow, was probably the biggest thing that kept me from playing druid for the longest time.
Resto druid was probably my second or third favorite class/spec though once I finally did in WotLK.
Oh, and Kryv's post is still terrible. Very out of character for him, he is usually not that bad a poster. Must have ate some bad clams.

So does most everyone else. How else do you explain that druids and paladins are the most played classes in WoW?

I don't know about the entire history of WoW but from WotLK up till now druids have been in the top five most played classes, if not the top three. I don't think you know what you are talking about.
