Go play GW 2 when it comes out. There is no hope for any PVP that is based on a Gear and Stat game.

I don't share you sunny optimism for GW2 but this is 100% correct. This is why DAOC PVP was so greatly loved by a lot of folks, especially in the VN community. In DAOC, you could with a little patience have exactly as good of gear as anyone else in PVP. It came down to PVP Realm Abilities gained through PVPing and the skill of your group.

This is also why ToA was such a hated expansion. It created a gear race and added even more "special" abilities that had to be acquired to stay competitive.

Speaking of GW2, didn't I read that they have gear for your toons that can be attained through PVE means? Wouldn't this gear unbalance PVP just like every other gearbased MMO currently with PVP in it?

^^ A few games in the past did it before and were very successful. Blizzard just overlooked pvp as a whole and it is the only real reason it failed at it. Other games like AoC/Failhammer had bad systems and balancing in place just as WoW does for pvp, and it just shows how game developers these days are out of touch. So much is copy/pasted into the making of new MMO's that it surprises me how they overlook the most notable pvp game. Which had gear/stat based pvp.

You must have missed JaconKin's post where he explained how the PvP in GW2 used a preset gear for everyone. That means everything will be based on your skills and your choice in which abilities you choose to use.

Indeed, good sir, I did miss that. Rock on then, maybe GW2 has found the answer and will indeed match JaconKin's expectations.

Watch:

Warrior in PVP, dodging, weapon swapping, healing himeslf.

PVP Tourney at PAX this weekend:

Game 2

Game 3

Game 4:

Participating in PVP will earn you Glory, which can be used to buy Cosmetic Gear Only, to show off how skillful you are at PVP. So yes you will still have people dancing at the mail box. Though with how large the cities are in the game it might not be that congested at mail boxes.

Check out my friends thread at Bad Cartridge.

He also did one up for Neo Gaf:

Both are similar, the neo gaf one has more picture due to Neo Gaf allowing more media in posts.

Once the the GW board is switched over to GW2 I'll post over there, besides there isn't much WoW talk taking place here. Most threads seem to be filled with the same people going back and forth with same tired argument happening between them, not about the game but about each other.

Atleast by posting about GW2 in some threads it breaks up the monotony, and I try to do my best to make a post that is relevant to what ever the topic is about.

Well, after "leveling" several chars through the PvP gearing "grind", all I can say is that PvP really starts when you have 3500ish resilience. Then you start to be competitive against almost any opponent, fights are balanced, how PvP should be.

And yeah, the GW2 spam is amusing... another victim of the "hype". But we are used to them here... Warhammer, Rift, Aion, <insert any other failure here>. Would be nice if it remained in GW2 specific threads... but asking something like that from VN posters is a waste of time. "GW2 PvP is gonna be better" is nonsensical spam, unless you are in the beta and experienced it first hand. Developer promises and announced awesome features are just that: words. And before someone says "but the videos!", WoW PvP can also look amazing... on videos... Videos where all the opponents are maxed out gear wise and of similar skill. Promotional videos. Reality is more about scrubs with 0 resilience whining that <insert class name here> is overpowered. And it will be the same in GW2.

SWTOR: 50 Jedi Shadow (Tank), 50 Sith Marauder (Annihilation).
LOTRO: Lifetime account, playing very casually.
WoW: Both accounts canceled for now.
GW2: Future Warrior.

I don't know who the more jaded player is, you or Spooky?

So I suppose listening to the impressions of other players who participated in last weeks gamescom tourneys doesn't matter, nor the countless other player impressions as well as press.

Now good sir if I was pimping out TOR I would say I would have drunk the Kool Aid. Also at least the spam on GW2 is better than most of p****ing contests between you and the other posters that most threads derail into since the activity on this board has sunk as fast as WoW subs. So has the quality of the posts come to think of it.
