Fair enough, guess we'll just have to see. Either way, 1/3 to 1/2 of Act 1 isn't very long, so still not really something to get your hopes up on. Should be entertaining for a day or two at least I guess.

Nah. They test their games differently these days, and the "beta" for D2 was basically a demo at the time.
My point is, the game is no longer a "single player" game but an online multiplayer game, so the reason to prevent people from playing it further, is no longer there. WoW for instance, gives you full access to the entire game in beta.
In other words, Blizzard's philosophy has greatly changed and we may see a big difference with the D3 beta.

Don't know about that. IIRC the beta for Diablo II was quite extensive.
The Stress Test on the other hand, was a demo. Could fight up to the first boss in the cemetery, and that was it.
But yeah, beta testing has changed, and differs a lot from company to company. Blizzard as far as I know has extensive "Closed Beta" programs.
Then you look at Gamers First(APB: Reloaded). It's a finished game(F2P now) they bought and put back into beta to make changes before they officially "release" it. It's currently open to all, in beta, and they have been charging money for in-game items; weapons/cars etc. for some time now.
I'm pretty sure Blizzard tests their games on their own quite thoroughly before they even start a closed beta.
