and this is worse than trade chat on 150 servers every minute of every day in what way?

Trade chat and the idiots that infest it are in no way endorsed, replayed in a convention setting or bound to Blizzard in any way... just off the top of my head.

Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure offensive and derogatory language on public channels is still cause for being band.

I totally get why Blizzard apologized. It is a part of the PR game.

I just don't get why people are so anal and trying to twist this into some gay-hate march. There are a lot of bad people doing bad things to gay people. This guy (probably) isn't one of them.

2. 100 years ago = not still alive. I get tired of people trotting out crap that happened before THEIR GRANDPARENTS were born, and acting like that is somehow relevant IMO. Even if you say in the last 50 years, its still a stretch.

While slavery was abolished a long time ago, the hate has lived on through generations. My grandparents are bigots. I love them, I really do, but they say stuff at times that make you hang your head. They will die soon, and eventually, any children of theirs that are bigots will too pass away. Eventually, these bad things die out, but it takes time, and a lot of hurt people in the process.

It's sad that they once again cater to the "holier than thou" politically correct whining crowd...

In this particular case, businesses (and CEOs) are held to a higher standard than the general public, and correctly so. Them's the rules. The public apology was necessary.

Can you see an employment law attorney showing that video in front of a jury if it hadn't been repudiated, indicating a clearly gay unfriendly environment at Blizzard? Or Blizz's already downtrodden financials (kudos to the first two replies on this thread) if on top of that a worldwide gay boycott of not just Blizzard but Activision was organized? Or, gasp, someone who had actual talent declining to work at Blizzard because of the perceived environment there?

I've seen firsthand the results of environments which are even subtly biased against this group or that, over the last 35 years in the work force. It does a lot more damage than you think, not just to the individual, but also to the productivity of the business and its ability to focus on its customers instead of internal friction. This is real, people, not just political correctness crap. I truly hope the generation entering the workforce now achieves what mine aspired to.

I watched the video and it pretty much sounds like what I read in trade chat every day.

It is one thing to have inside jokes at Blizzard.

It is one thing to have an individual at Blizzard say something they think is funny.

It is entirely another thing altogether to stand on a stage at a Blizzard-sponsored event involving their product and their customers and in any way promote/endorse something that can be damaging to the company, their parent company and their parent company's stockholders.

Taking responsibility for the 'poor judgement' and issuing an apology is necessary damage-control. Hopefully they look into the cause of the oversight that prompted it.

Context, some people desperately need to look it up....

And this is an obvious ploy by desperate high ups at Blizzard for product attention. Remember, even bad attention is sometimes good attention when it comes to businesses and celebrities.

And racism is still around because a lot of high end black activists are getting richer by keeping it going. Why would Jesse Jackson, for example, stop talking about and even promoting racism when it gets him paid?

Morgan Freeman said it best when he was asked in an interview "How do you think we can end racism?" Morgan Freeman said "Stop talking about it."

Just because you aren't part of the niche doesn't make it any less significant. Head, ass, pull.

Huh. See, world renowned means that a whole lot of people all over the world know them. You know, like U2, or Madonna, or Michael Jackson. Because you douches seem to think your crappy niche music matters, I went and googled this (from Wikipedia):

Throughout the years the band has been established, they have had little radio or television exposure, although a cult following began to build behind the group with the release of albums such as 1991's Butchered at Birth and 1992's Tomb of the Mutilated which both reached over one million in worldwide sales by 2003,[1] including 558,929 in the United States, making them the top-selling death metal band of all time in the US, and second worldwide.[2]

I am not disputing that they might be well known in death metal circles but death metal is highly niche, as I said. This band, supposedly the second best selling of all time, has sold what... 4-6 million albums since 1986? That's through 11 albums. Many of those sales came from albums released 20 years ago.

You can do the math and tell me how less than 250k-350k sales per album as an average works out to world renowned status. Less than 0.2% of American's own their top selling album.

Niche market.

Going for two ignorant posts in one thread I see!

World renowned status does not require a whole lot of people to know you. The word renowned is defined as meaning celebrated or famous. Being world renowned only requires that you be celebrated or famous around the world. In case you were wondering, being famous doesn't require a whole lot of people to know about you. Care to drop any more lovely ignorance on this thread?
