The recent info on Mists of Panderia has gotten my attention finally. Basically, I like the new features they are adding to the game and I think Blizzard will try to do a better job with this due to the issues surrounding Cataclysm.

The screenshots and video's for the new zones are also well done and are much better than what we saw in Cataclysm IMO.

I think you might have the "shiny new penny" syndrome.

From what I have read, and what they are doing to the talents, choice limitations, overall dumbing down of the game basically herding us like cattle that were once free range in to smaller and smaller corrals, it should be an insult to the intelligence of everyone that plays this game.

If you look past the sheen of the shiny new penny so to speak, MoP is really all about implementing more power and control over the player base. I don't know about you but I resent them trying to treat me like a chess piece in their private game or some kind of lab monkey they want to have autonomous control over. Which is exactly what they are doing with MoP.

Can you clarify your statements for someone who knows nothing about MoP? How are they doing what you said, as far as implementing more power and control over the player base, treating you like a chess piece and so on?

We can always hope, sure.

But in all seriousness, what evidence do you have whatsoever that would lead you believe that blizzard will "do a better job?"

All the hype they have posted is nothing more than they have done before. And it always ends up bait and switch. Always, every time, since the game was released.

I'm seriously wondering why you think this time will be any different.

Well, I guess if you felt baited and switched for every expansion, I can't see why you're even still here looking at another WoW expansion... Some of us actually liked those expansions prior to Cata though.

Edit: In fact, I would say most did, considering the population had been continually on the rise until the most recent expansion. That would probably be enough evidence.

I don't think Spooky is saying the previous expansions were bad, just that Blizzard has a purpetual habit of raising expectations for new content and ultimately end up either scrapping said content or implementing it badly.

So here they are presenting a lot of their new content for MoP, and certain players are weary that they will not deliver on their promises. Fool me once, and all that.

Personally, I'll still be playing. There is still a lot in the game (before end game) that I haven't experienced, and the 6 hours a week that I play are enough to keep me subscribed.

My first EQ1 character was a monk (pre-Kunark); decided it was a grind around 20+ I think it was and rolled a 'chanter. Ah memories.

The "customer base" may not have "declined"!

If 24 million customers play, on average, for 6 months a year - so at any one time some are subbed and some are unsubbed - then the headline sub number at a point in time will be 12M.

However if 24 million play on average for only 5 months of the year (1/6 less) then the headline sub figure will only be 10M - 1/6 less.

In fact the customer base could have increased:

e.g. 50M customers previously played on average 3 months: headline sub number 12.5M.
After the last xpac 60M but if the average sub drops to 2 months then the headline figure will be 10M.

I think this is the message that Blizzard nave been trying to put across people burning through content faster' etc. And I am sure they it is 'true'. Of course it may also be that people are less easily enthralled, that there is more competition, that they are not simply exploring the land, crafting, setting up new guilds and all the other stuff that people do in an mmo.

This. I don't really see bait and switch as being subjective or how one "felt" about it. The fact is that blizzard continually hypes certain elements and inevitably does not actually deliver them. Path of the Titans anyone?

One could make a long list of examples such as this, with every xpac. It did not make the xpacs bad (except cataclysm), but it certainly has to give one pause to actually hope or expect anything blizzard says to actually be true.

We won't know until it actually gets released how much is hype and how much actually gets delivered.
