But I just found this on Blizz's site:
What happens to people who buy gold?
Players who choose to buy gold and support these exploitive companies may find the purchased gold removed from their account so that it can be returned to the rightful character. If it was your gold, wouldn’t you want it back?
So... worse case scenario, you lose the gold you bought. If you're prepared to buy gold in the first place, this is hardly much of a disincentive - perhaps if they reset your main to zero wealth and green gear it would have an impact, but then they might quit and Blizz loses yet another subscriber!

Seems a fair way to go about it. They are out the money, real money. Perhaps they are rich enough that real money means nothing to them. I don't know many people that would not think twice if there was a risk of losing what they paid for. Still I would like to see a month ban or something to put a little more sting into it. As with drugs you will never stop the supply if there is a demand. The only way solve the problem is to reduce the demand.

I've got 230k. It is amazing that I could sell that for close to $2000.

The best part about it is that you could do it without any risk of banning or action against your account. Just keep the talk about the transaction off anything they can collect information from and then have a fake conversation in-game about how you want to 'start from scratch and want to help someone out'.
