Around the turn of the century, designers realized they could control media and opinion better if they offered their own forums through their hired moderators. This turn of events is what truly started to kill independent forums like the one here. Realistically, most of us are from those days when AC and DAoC drew us to VN. We've just been too stubborn to leave. And, maybe, the familiarity helped as well.
That actually speaks volumes.

I'd probably give it a try Tai. I enjoy the freedom of discussion that is allowed here on VN so if you are going to try and recreate that atmosphere then I'm all for it.

Yes, I always like the idea of gaming forums that support conversation/discussion and even argument. I'd just want to be sure that some of the more overt trolling and aggressively negative or personalized back-and-forth don't come to dominate the way they often did here. That stuff sort of wrecked these boards.
Anyway, that's another topic. I'd be happy to see some of you put a new set of boards together, and would support that. I certainly don't intend to make the move to IGN.

It's ironic. A couple of us in another thread mentioned how the rampant and blatant trolling had contributed quite a bit to killing this board and were mocked and called delusional. Guess we weren't delusional after all. I look forward to seeing the new forums you create, Tai, and sincerely hope that they are moderated more then VN was.

To be clear, I am not the brains behind this effort (trust me, that is a good thing), I am just helping them out where needed. They have far more experience than I doing this sort of thing.
