the game actually has a decent player base, there are 3 servers that are locked, one that is really close to it, and 2 to 3 others that have healthy populations. they were in the process of letting th eplayers choose which servers would be closed, which would have resulted in another heavy and medium populated server. the game is too complex to just merge like daoc. so i assume the game was fairly profitable.
edit: by locked i mean they are full.
the depth of the game was so much beyond anything else out there it initially was somewhat of a shock to hear it being shut down, as there really is no competition for it. but when it was noted in an interview by one of the heads of soe that the swg devs were being moved to a new project it became quite clear that they were just sick of dealing with lucasarts and plan on remaking swg without the star wars theme. i hope they do as there is nothing quite like swg, it is the ultimate sandbox mmo.
its not unusual for comments like quazis, but like most things in life if they appeal to the masses they are usually pretty bland. swg definitely wasnt for everyone, but i feel bad for those gamers out there that never really got to try it and see what they were missing.
