I'm confused now... are u saying that nigerian gangs had no play in apatheid and the movie portrayed that as false... and that they do not act like that or what?

No, I am asking you to prove that Nigerian gangs were in South Africa during apartheid. Your links have failed to do so thus far.

Lexi_Necrodiva posted:

at first u said they were no in that period.. i proved that they were on both sides..

Where? Your link has only shown that the Nigerian's played a role as peace keepers and helped bring about the end of apartheid. Your other link has shown that Nigerian gangs were in South Africa in the 1990's, decades after apartheid was over.

Lexi_Necrodiva posted:

u then said nigerians were not in the area by your map contradiction... i proved that...

You proved what? That Nigerians were in the area? My 'map contradiction' was supposed to pose the question of why the movie chose Nigerian gangs would travel across the continent.

Lexi_Necrodiva posted:

so what are you saying now? that their behavioral charectoristics are that of helpers and peacekeepers during this time period?

No, I am asking you to show me, through your links and quotes, where Nigerians came to South Africa and committed atrocities against the apartheid blacks.

Lexi_Necrodiva posted:

the links show gang violence pre and post that period.. and the large amount of population in that area prior to the events of d6...

If your argument is only that there were gangs in South Africa in apartheid, then there is no argument. If this is the case, my original argument still stands that they were stupid to choose blacks to be the gangs and to portray them as animalistic and barbaric - regardless of whether or not it was true. Why? Because the movie used metaphors for all other key players and factions to represent their point, and failed to do so for the most important part of the moral (for this movie), the black culture.

Lexi_Necrodiva posted:

so we went from u trying to say they were portayed wrong to u saying there are no nigerians in south africa (like chile / mexicans) etc.. what's next? honestly.. is this your only soap box at this point?

I went from asking you to give me proof that Nigerians were in South Africa, committing atrocities during apartheid. I used the Chile / Mexico metaphor to show how far apart the two countries were... literally across the continent.

Lexi_Necrodiva posted:

if u want me to go on their behavioral charectoristics in the movie.. a simple search on voo doo prostitutes of nigeria shows a nice many things.

Again, you convoluted the argument, and argue things that I never have said or contradicted. I know there are tribal beliefs in Africa, I know Nigerians have practiced them. But why add it to a movie when it only detracts from the theme?

Again, whether or not they were basing the characteristics on reality is beside the point and irrelevant. It would be like making a movie about Jews during World War II, showing the encampments and then juxtaposing pictures and video of dead Palestinian children with Israeli soldiers standing and bombs dropped around them. You could point to historical fact or evidence all day, but the fact remains that any moral set up through the movie would be torn down by the contrasting images. This should not be that difficult of a concept to grasp. I think your views on blacks is clouding your ability to see simple analogies.

Lexi_Necrodiva posted:

u took this way off topic... your arguement was aout how it wrongly portrayed blacks as animals in making a msg even tho u said "And I'm not arguing that this was being untrue to African gangs, but it's a bit counterproductive to portray them in such a way when trying to deliver such a strong moral." the movie portayed the nigerian gangs as violent and voo doo following cannabals.. which is often practiced in that belief...

There just are no words... it's like arguing with a two year old.

Lexi_Necrodiva posted:

u went from that to history and geography.. ..

I brought up geography because you seem to think that all black people are the same. Oh, some stuff happened in Liberia, so it must be true throughout the continent.

Title of that is: Albinos being murdered for voodoo rituals in Africa

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmrkTi3EHqk
This one is: The Cannibals' War - Liberia

http://www.heretical.com/cannibal/congo1.html
Where? the Congo? Yeah... that's South Africa alright!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1199985/Now-goes-trial-Africas-cannibal-despot-Charles-Taylor-finally-just-deserts.html
Liberia? Hmm.. I guess they all are the same after all!

Forget it Lexi. All you've done in this thread (moreso the PMs) has been to solidify my beliefs that you are a racist... and that you don't even know what it is. I still love you though, and I'm sure baby Jesus does too.

So they should have shown.. white gangs practicing voo doo eating the aliens?

And no.. u states that the movie picked on black people by showing the gangs in there as ruthless barbarians... i said each race has it's own john walkers...

and the links were showing u canabals.. and what they practice... which is what was practiced in that movie.. primitive voo doo... that involves canabalism...

i doubt they could use asians or russians in that theme and it would make much sense.. yeah.. dr chang... in africa? wtf lol.

perhaps u are the racist.. sharpton.. jackson.. rev wright.. and altra... boo hoo another movie 'da brotha' gets mocked in... (in his natural habitat btw), how dare they show that on tv?

coulda been flint.. woulda been the same...

not racist.. just go down the ruins of detroit.. bring a camcorder.. same thing.

you're arguement is that in this movie of anti racism they portrayed blacks as dirty thus being racist in itself.. had they been white or yellow or dark tan would u have still bitched so much about it? perhaps this was not a movie about racism like u made it out to be, but rathers a weak man going through a traumatic change to sacrifice himself for a people he hates... like.. the last samurai? or was that racist to cuz it showed asians working on rice fields?

you're the one who went into this movie not knowing what to expect and came out crying for 10 acres and a mule.

"Theme of the movie - wikipedia"
Like Alive in Joburg, the short film it's based on, District 9's setting is inspired by historical events that took place in South Africa during the apartheid, with the film's title particularly referencing District Six. District Six, an inner-city residential area in Cape Town was declared a "whites only" area by the government in 1966, with 60,000 people forcibly removed and relocated to Cape Flats, 25 kilometres away, for the next several decades.[4] The film also seems to refer to contemporary evictions and forced removals to new ghettos in post-apartheid South Africa.[5] This includes the high profile attempted force removal of Joe Slovo Informal Settlement in Cape Town to Temporary Relocation Areas in Delft and evictions in the shack settlement where the film was actually shot.[6]

The theme of racism and xenophobia is reflected in the use of the word "prawn" to describe the aliens. The term "prawn" is used as a derogatory reference to the Parktown prawn, a king cricket species considered a plague in South Africa.[7] While the film clearly bears this social and cultural relevance, however, Copley said it wasn't the main focus in the work, and you could even miss it, but it would still work at an unconscious level.[8]

- so u focus on whats not even meant to be the theme.

also.. some are saying that district 9 is i the same time line as district six because in the movie they mention the destruction by prawns of the *noovoyu chapel* (which is the name of the district six museum and dedication area...

so IF that is true.. perhaps htis movie just shows life and people as a full circle? like in the alien nation world where basically racism in the world died and they pointed their disgust to a new race? perhaps the theme is that there will always be hate, crime, and intolerance no matter what and history repeats itself?

again - soorry for typo's in wintergrasp atm

* Main Entry: racĀ·ism
* Pronunciation: \'ra-?si-z?m also -?shi-\
* Function: noun
* Date: 1933

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

You, my friend, are a racist. Can I post your PM?

Also, you seem to have some trouble with reading comprehension.

matter of fact.. i doubt there is 1 race i haven't mocked in some way...

but omg.. i pick on blacks.. and it's over? LOL..

u sir are the racist.. i, pick on everyone equally and never hide the fact that i do.. i believe it's publicly shown in my signature and i do nothing to censor myself?

gj pointing out that i pick on people... but instead of just QQ'ing for the hoods.. how about u take up the mantle for the dozens of others out there? be an equal opportunist son.

oh also... i don't think my race is inherent superior... not with the trash amongst it.. i vote asian tbh LOL.. oh i also pick on people for their religious beliefs... i mean.. come on.. wanna break apart mormans? heh.

point being.. i pick on everyone... what u have in your pm is nothing compared to what i've sent ot many people about every race.. again.. it's all in my sig pal, i hide nothing. do u?

When you have an issue with someone because of their skin color, that makes you a racist. It doesn't redeem you simply because other people piss you off too. Sorry, but nice try!

Just annoying that you're obviously a racist and yet you can't admit it.
Even more annoying is that I didn't bring up race as an issue, you did. You seem to not get over the fact that it was part of the movie, so I can't talk about it at all apparently without going all 'Sharpton.' So you keep arguing the same points over and over again, that never were even an issue... why bother actually discussing the movie any more? It's more fun to see you try to argue semantics.

from the man who made the movie

You dont have to replace them with whites.. just add some white spear chucking cannibals in with them.. although im sure they would screw it up and show the white people eating the other humans with a knife and fork.
