The antisocial behavior must not occur exclusively during an episode of schizophrenia or a manic episode.


Sex differences: According to DSM-IV (in a 1994 publication by the APA), Antisocial Personality disorder is diagnosed in approximately three percent of all males and one percent of all females.


Symptoms


Characteristics of people with antisocial personality disorder may include:


* Persistent lying or stealing - Nope.

* Recurring difficulties with the law - Nope.

* Tendency to violate the rights and boundaries of others - Nope. Especially when so many people are delusional as to what an actual "Right" is.

* Substance abuse - Nope.

* Aggressive, often violent behavior; prone to getting involved in fights - Nope.

* A persistent agitated or depressed feeling (dysphoria) - Nope.

* Inability to tolerate boredom - Not any more than anyone else.

* Disregard for the safety of self or others - Nope.

* A childhood diagnosis of conduct disorders - this is not a symptom but "a history of" - Nope.

* Lack of remorse, related to hurting others - Nope.

* Superficial charm - Ok, a little.

* Impulsiveness - Ok, a littl.

* A sense of extreme entitlement - Nope.

* Inability to make or keep friends - Nope.

* Recklessness, impulsivity - Reckless, no. Sometimes impulsive, yes.

* People with a diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder often experience difficulties with authority figures. - Ok, you got me.

Consider for a moment the person who fits only criteria 1, 2, 4, and 7. You have a non-reckless sociopath whose smart enough to stay under everyones radar except perhaps for it being obvious to some people that he can be very easily angered and aggressive. On snap! Sociopaths don't have to out themselves with lots of irrational behavior! Hell you only need 3 of those to qualify, so if you leave out 4, or if the sociopath simply gets angry easily but doesn't irrationally get into fights, you have a virtually invisible sociopath.

I can't think of anyone like that though.

my therapist (i have to see one for pain management or i don't get happy pills. ) says i'm a misanthrope. i was foolish and let him see a glimpse of who i really am. i've been much more careful since then. i don't want to be placed in a mental hospital. i'm not a danger to myself or to others physically!


btw i fit 1, 2, 6 and 7. but the only reason i fit 6 is because of my diseases. i can't hold down a job because i'm in too much pain and too medicated to like.. leave my house alone. i also don't form emotional/sentimental attachments to people or objects. to use the description my friend gave me, i'm not anymore excited to see a friend than i am to see a chair. which is true and why i'm astonished i have friends. but i guess i keep them around because they're all useful to me on some level.

Indeed. At least I can sympathize with the pain aspect to an extent.


At least mine has been controlled thus far to a degree to allow a return to work, but I do fear for the future with a progressive disease.
