From what I remember the V2s were spotty and sometimes less than reliable but the V4s are generally well received. I myself use the Yongnuo rf-602 system and have never had a misfire, however they are less than perfect. My only gripes about it is that the trigger runs on cr2 batteries which are expensive and not rechargeable and the receiver was designed poorly so that you cant access the on off switch while mounted on the hot shoe of most flashes.

Check out the strobist forums on flickr though because there are a million threads a month about the latest budget trigger systems and how well they hold up.

DB, you really should check out ebay for the cr2 batteries. I bought 2 batteries for mine for around $5 including shipping... Duracell batteries, shipped form the US too!

That's not a bad deal at all, I will definitely look into it. I burned one out really fast when I first got it because since the transmitter has no off button the button on top was apparently being pressed inside my bag and drained it.

I have an army of AA and AAA that I can recharge though so I wish I could use them in the transmitter, but for how cheap they were I can't complain much.

Cool. I bought a strobist equipment kit with the Cactus V4s to to use with my Canon 430EX II. Should arrive tomorrow, hopefully everything works smoothly.

Sometimes when I'm thinking ahead I just take the battery out, but usually it's rare for me to think ahead that much. Lately though I have been doing a lot of natural light wide open, now I have to convince myself that I don't need to spend every cent I make over the next five years on super fast primes.
