Glad he's ok now. I'd be super pissed because it's negligence on their part and these days schools and daycares have no excuse at all for not understanding allergies and how serious they can be. I'd probably have to send my wife to deal with that situation because I can't imagine myself staying polite enough to accomplish anything.

Hopefully you get some reasonable satisfaction for the incident and yours and other kids will be safer as a result.

My sister has the peanut allergy and now it's severe enough that her using the epi-pen gives just enough time for her to get to the ER. Scary stuff. I have a bunch of allergies, including the nut one but I've never had a severe or quick reaction. I almost never eat out and it has been years since I got exposed to peanuts. A little paranoia goes a long way. (I have other digestive issues now that make it rather pointless to eat out even stuff I trust. =/)

I'm with Poppy on this. That employee obviously wasn't trained, or if she was, she wasn't trained well.

Holy crap I would be absolutely livid. Especially at the reaction of the worker, like "oh well no biggie". I'd probably be demanding they be fired on the spot.

I can understand a mistake. We're all human, mistakes happen. Although, for something that serious it's also my mindset that they better damn well not make a PREVENTABLE mistake like that!

Hell, I've been avoiding sugar the last couple weeks...in everything possible. Now that I've started looking at labels it's omgamazing at the things that have sugar in them that you'd never think they would. And that's just because I want to stay away from it for a while. You can bet I'd be super checking every single label if it was allergy involved.

My daughter was in a class with a kid with peanut allergies, and all the parents were informed of it. We weren't asked to not send our kids with PB&J sandwiches or anything but I made sure I never did. I thought that was the considerate and RIGHT thing to do...no reason some other mother's child should risk death so my daughter can eat something at school that I can make for her some other time.

Yeah I'd be talking to the director of that care center, no doubt.

They'd be paying my medical bills, and I *might* give them another chance - depending on how much I liked and trusted the facility and the caregivers before this incident. That's crap, putting it mildly. You don't screw around with my children's lives like that.

They are paying all his medical bills from it.

I am making a poster for the classroom with his picture and his allergies.

They are strictly forbidden from giving him ANY food that I have not provided. I dont care if it is an ****ing banana.
I have brought in various E safe snacks and they are keeping them in a basket in the cupboard so when they give the other kids snacks they can kind of match what he is getting to what they are getting.

Corporate understands why I am so pissed and actually sent two of the high ups to a meeting I was having with the director (scared I was going to sue them perhaps?) and every single teacher at that school has to re-take the whole allergy anaphylaxis training they do.

They are getting a designated Epi Pen area because I just found out none of the teachers knew where the damned thing was. (I will be asking them where it is on random days when i drop him off and taking the training pen in with me to make sure they know how to use it)

They are re-writing they policy dealing with allergies to ensure that E and other kids with allergies are protected, I'm going to review it and offer improvements where I see things that could be added changed...

They are now enforcing their no peanut policy.

AND

They banned Nilla Wafers from the whole school (sorry but that one made me laugh)

lol, well I'm glad it worked out in your favor and you didn't have to change schools.

Your lil guy is probably safer there now since there *was* an incident anyway. Messed up that it happened, but maybe for the best?

Ideology is not reality.
To make good policy, one must consider all ideologies and decide which best solves the reality of the situation. Ideology is afterall, JUST AN IDEA.
