Goodness I am glad he ok!

as far as the other goings on, The main reason I quit as a Headstart teacher was when new regulations came in that included:

We were no longer allowed to hug the kids

we were no longer allowed to let them sit on or lay their heads on our laps while in the circle for story time. Nor could you put your arm around them.

we were no longer allowed to pick them up and hold them.

Do you know how hard it is to not pick up a hurt child and cuddle them when they have fallen down? or give them a quick hug for a job well done?

While I realize there is some basis of fact somewhere behind all this it makes me sad that we as teachers can no longer comfort a child without being afraid of losing our teaching licenses or worse.

I know what you mean. I honestly think that children are a lot worse off from missing out on an innocent, loving touch from people who care for them. Hell, some kids never see their parents, and even when they do, it's a hands-off policy. I can't even fathom going through life without holding, hugging, squeezing, tickling, kissing my kids...

What a messed-up world we live in where a kindergarten teacher can't give a child a hug and say it's ok, someone loves you and is here to help you and make you feel safe.
