It's been busy as all heck here this week, and to top it off, we ended up at the ER yesterday with Matthias.

He was at daycare, and they'd taken a trip down to the gymnasium to do gymnastics and have fun, etc. They spent 2 hours running amok and getting exhausted and they said that Matthias had given it his all.

They get back on the bus and get back to the daycare building and Matthias misses a step on the bus...

We took him to the ER for observation to make sure he didn't have a concussion. He's fine, but with one HELL of a bruse & bump.

Today we drop him off at the daycare and get a notice about an emergency meeting being held tonight at 7pm at the local library. We ask what it's about, and no one will say anything.

So Hubby goes (since 7pm is Matthias' bedtime) and it turns out that one of the workers there has been accused of improperly touching one of the girls there.

At this point it's the elephant in the room, since the person accused of it has been removed from the building and we've seen all the other workers there this week. So it's not 'hiding' the identity of the person accused.

What really sucks is if this person IS innocent, they have NO career left in child care, ever. From what Hubby said, the moment it was said there was an accusation, people wanted to get a lynch mob going. I have zero tolerance for molesters, but can we at least be sure this person IS in fact, a molester before we ruin them?

/blog off... what a goddamned week.

That's an impressive lump, he's probably too young still to really appreciate it though. Glad he's ok!

Want to ruin someone's life? Make an accusation like that. It's pretty foolproof. Here's hoping that it's not real and that the fallout isn't so bad. Stuff like this makes me even more glad I'm a stay-at-home dad for now.

From what Hubby says, the accusation is that the person in question allegedly took the pants off of a little girl. They didn't mention how old the child is, I'm assuming she's at least 2.5 to be able to tell her folks that it occurred.

So it could have been the accused was changing the child (who might have gotten dirty, or wet, or had a bathroom accident) - there's perfectly GOOD reasons why she'd need to have her pants removed. There's also perfectly AWFUL reasons why someone would take her pants off.

Jesus. Go Matthias! My older son has injured everything he has, I think (literally, he gets hurt EVERY DAY) - and he's not had a bump that large. He did great!


(I'm glad he's okay. I know if I was you, I'd cringe every time I looked at him for the foreseeable future.)


I think that I refuse to work with children unless every square inch of the area I and the children are in is under constant recorded surveillance. Someone saying something like that and it not being true is still going to have the potential to ruin the rest of your life - I don't know about (I swear you're in Denmark, but my brain said what about Holland?), but in the US? Yeah. I hope that it's a false accusation, and I hope the person's life isn't ruined.

There's no surveillance here unfortunately (yes I'm in DK).

I'm wondering if this is 'fallout' from 2/3 weeks ago - it was nearly 100F here in Denmark, and I can remember there were a lot of kids that were let out to play in their diapers/underwear. Their parents had sent them to daycare with long jeans, etc on - and they didn't have any shorts in their clothes basket to change them in to. (We're supposed to have 2 changes of clothes (both summer and winter) available for the staff at the daycare to change our kids into if needs).

They smother the kids in sunscreen, so there's no harm in having them run about like that, IMO. I'd rather my son have just a t-shirt and a diaper on (with shoes/sandals) than get heatstroke, etc.

Oooh! Look at the goose egg on that little guy! That's gotta hurt.

My husband and I looked around for a long time to find a daycare that is family oriented and not so damned politically correct that every action by a caregiver is under legal inspection. We personally know all our daughter's caregivers, where they live, their husbands and children and speak with them every day about our child. I just hope that when she starts going to the public schools for kindergarten that we can keep up the communication with her teacher(s).

We have an excellent relationship with our daycare. Even the person under suspicion was never too busy to talk about what Matthias had learned that day, or did that was cute, or if they thought he wasn't feeling well, etc. Every worker there knows every child by name, and their parents by name, etc. They know who has a birthday, etc. While there are some aspects of daycare in Denmark that don't thrill me, I know it's a cultural thing. Overall, I can't really complain about the daycare.
