I don't know if progressive/alternative rock is your type exactly, but my friend just introduced me to a Danish band called Mew. I can't stop listening to them. They have the most unique sound I've heard in a long time. I bought their 2003 Frenger's album last week. It is fantastic and one of the songs "She Spider" is on the Spiderman soundtrack.

If you can ignore the story around it and just hear the music, the Daughtry album is actually pretty enjoyable. If you like the sort of nickelbackish rock.
