Mine's pretty much like quikk's too.
Sometimes I'll throw different flavored chocolate chips in (not too many because you don't want the flavor to be overpowering)
The key is definitely do not overbake.

I hate to say it, but I use the box. They've got some pretty good ones. Not worth the effort to do by scratch imo.

I make mine from scratch from an old kids cookbook my grandmother got me when I was 6 or 7. I'll have to find it so I can post the recipe. They are THE BEST brownies I've ever had and go even better with gooey chocolate frosting on top.

I like mine gooey. I've actually never found a better recipe than Duncan Hines Milk Chocolate Chunk, so I don't make mine from scratch.
LOL Same.

I've tried a variety over the years from scratch - nothing to me beats the Ghirardelli variety out of the box.

ok I dug out the book. It's from 1979! wow I feel old! LOL anyway, here is the one I use:
Chocolate Brownies
3/4 cup butter or margarine
2 squares (2 oz) unsweetened chocolate
1 1/3 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup to 1 cup walnuts (optional)
preheat to 350
melt butter and chocolate on low in a saucepan until melted. remove from burner.
stir in sugar and eggs, 1 egg at a time.
in small bowl mix flour, baking powder and salt. stir into chocolate mixture in saucepan. add nuts scrape into a greased 13x9x2 pan and spread with rubber scraper.
bake 25-30 min
Chocolate Butter Frosting recipe:
3 tbl butter or margarine softened
2 1/3 cups sifted powedered sugar
milk
3/4 tsp vanilla
1 square unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
with a mixer, mix 3 tablespoons butter or margine until fluffy. add about 1/2 of sugar mixture, beating on low speed.
beat in 1 tablespoon milk and the vanilla. slowly add rest of sugar while beating on low speed. add cooled chocholate. beat in more milk if needed to make it smoother.

Not one person said to put any "special ingredients" in.
Surprising.

Thanks! I love old recipe books. My favorite is one made in 1952, it has instructions on building a food cellar and larding a roast.
