Never cooked brownies. I've made a few cakes from scratch but never brownies.

Any tips would be appreciated too.

I LOVE to bake, but I have yet to find the "awesome" Brownie recipe.

Brownies

3/4 cup shortening
4 squares (4 oz.) unsweetened chocolate
1 cup brown sugar firmly packed
1 cup granulated sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Melt: shortening and chocolate together in top of double boiler. Remove from heat.

Add: sugars, eggs and vanilla, mix well.

Spoon: flour into dry measuring cup. Level off and pour into bowl.

Add: baking powder and salt to flour. Stir well to blend.

Add: dry ingredients and nuts to chocolate mixture. Mix well.

Spread: in well greased 9 x 13 inch oblong pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Cool in pan.

Frost with 1/2 batch of chocolate butter cream frosting if desired. Yield 4 dozen.

I like mine gooey. I've actually never found a better recipe than Duncan Hines Milk Chocolate Chunk, so I don't make mine from scratch.

Gooey Brownies

SERVES 18 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

* 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
* 3 cups white sugar
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 5 eggs
* 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 lb nuts, chopped (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F butter 9x13 pan.

In a saucepan over medium heat melt the butter. Stir in the sugar until dissolved. Remove mixture from heat and

beat in the eggs one at a time mixing well after each addition.

Stir in the vanilla.

Sift the flour, cocoa and salt together.

Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until combined.

Stir in the nuts.(optional)

Spread the batter into the prepared pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30-40 minutes. Do not overbake!

Mine is actually pretty similar to qwikks. I think I just dust it with Confectioners sugar at the end.
