my daughter wants to make some. I looked around online but I would prefer to use one that someone uses regularly.

Black Russian is one thing that comes to mind
in a Rock Glass add Ice
2 oz or 1 shot of Vodka
1 oz of Kalua
Do you have more ingredients available or just those two?

put a bunch of coffee beans in a clean wine bottle; cover with vodka; steep until you get the taste you want; strain and serve

HOMEMADE KAHLUA RECIPE
4 c. water
3 c. sugar
3/4 c. instant coffee (not freeze dried)
1/5 vodka
1/4 split vanilla beans
Simmer above ingredients. Remove; add coffee and stir. Cool, then add vodka. Let age for 4 weeks.
Everything I've found seems to follow that general recipe
