i can't really remember the first two movies, so my view is slightly obscured here. i'm only half way through the second book (listening to them while i play eq2.) but damn. i remember enough to know what wasn't in the movies. i was also quite stunned at how much everyone dislike hermione at first and how much of a little militant bitch she was for nearly the entire first book. i need to find something else to do while i listen to them. i can't be doing anything that requires i use my brain, otherwise i block out the book. if i don't, i think i'll just start reading them after 2 is over.

whoever said jim dale was the man was very correct. he rules at reading and doing voices w/o being obnoxious and irriating. maybe it's because all the voices totally match the way the actors in the movies spoke. i dunno. either way, it's badass. so dale and spike are now the only 2 audio book readers i truly love to listen to. i'll add claudia black to that list when she gets signed up to read a GOOD book series. maybe we can start a petition to get patrick rothfuss to demand her for at least the voices of the women in his kingkiller series.

the first two movies were good. then they changed directors and it went to crap.

book is 99% of the time better than a movie though regardless. very rarely i find an exception. the shawshank redemption is a good example of where the movie was a little better.

i started listening to them because i knew the books were better but i didn't realize how much better they were. i'm blown away by how well she writes for that age level.

Harry Potter stories are right there with WoT books imo. First few are fantastic, period. Then they just get bogged down with detail and plot. The final book was just....meh.

I agree with whomever, the first 2 movies were actually worth a flip and did a great job with the transfer.

edit: length aside, i think the reason the lotr movies did so well is because the exact same people worked on all 3. harry potter is suffering heavily from a total change outside of the cast with every movie. that's really ruining it, imo. if chris columbus had stayed on for all 7 well 8 now that deathly hollows is 2 movies, it would have been better imo.

I've always wondered if she wanted every adult in the series to be dull, unrelatable and ultimately unlikable in some stoke of children's literature genius or if she just can't write interesting characters without the crutch of adolescence.
