ok i totally got the suggestion from penny arcade. read the little sample bn offers and bought it. i'm only up to chapter 7 (like 60 pages or something in.) and while the story, so far, isn't all that interesting, the way it's written has sucked me into the world entirely.

It is absolutely brilliant. The writing is astounding and once you actually get to the story it is very engaging. I don't love the story within a story idea but he does it very well and I enjoyed it despite my principled disagreement, plus I believe he is going somewhere with it- he certainly does a masterful job foreshadowing with it.

i almost want to stop reading it until the second book is out. i just assume it will be a trilogy.

Yes, it will be a trilogy. Usually I avoid buying series that aren't complete but since it is his first book I figured supporting it would be helpful.

He doesn't leave you with a huge cliff-hanger or anything. He even tells you what is going to happen, you just don't know how it is going to happen (in much the same way he uses the story within a story throughout the book).

I don't expect the next book anytime soon, it has been almost three years and book two doesn't have a release date yet.

I largely enjoyed the world, and found the magic system intriguing. The main character, money aspect, and a certain dragon sub-plot made me want to use the book for toilet paper.

jesus christ. i'm largely susceptible to this kind of thing at this time of the year, due to an anniversary, but the uh.. death of his entire troupe managed to stir up my feeling a little bit.

I have the exact same problem.

Every time I pick up an epic fantasy novel I'm bored to tears with it. Between Jacqueline Carey and Patrick Rothfuss I can't enjoy anything else. I also can't get in to any urban fantasy because nothing is as good as the Weather Warden books.

It is like the entirety of literature has turned to ash in my mouth. I'm emotionally depressed.

i've not read anything by jacqueline carey. i might though cuz i want to be able to reference a "jc" to people. ok i have to add this because i just looked at her site. the second tattoo looked like a penis at first, because it's kind of blurry. i was like wtf does she have a giant cock on her back for? oh it's a chick. worst tattoo ever.

but i've never been as entirely sucked into anything as i was with the name of the wind. it's kinda like how kotor spoiled me on all video games for a few years.
