I don't agree that the first 300 pages are horrendous. I will certainly agree though that the rest of the book after those 300 or so pages is a lot better. It's a slow read written in a detailed and fleshed out style that you simply don't see in literature anymore. It was a really good book though, and I'm honestly looking forward to a followup more than any other right now.

And yes, it's a big book, however it's not that huge, I own bigger. I couldn't imagine it on an e-book reader though with all the footnotes and such, of course I still prefer a real book over an e-reader anyways. I use an e-reader when on the move, but at home I still prefer the real deal.
