I think the casting is remarkably good.
There are only a couple people I am iffy on and more than a few that I think are spot on.

Theon and Benjen were exactly how I pictured them. The Starks were close. Tyrion I pictured as older and more stocky. The rest of the Lannisters were nothing like I pictured. The rest of the cast was very good with a few hits and misses here and there.

Those are the ones I didn't particularly agree with, the Lannisters.
Cercei and Jamie seemed completely off to me. Though I think the father was fine. Tyrion I forgive because they will never find a vertically challenged actor who looks right and can act.

For some reason I always pictured the elder Lannister as looking more like Malcolm McDowell as he looked in Doomsday.
But, I agree, the actor they have is fine.
*edit* Also, some of the female cast pictures were obviously taken from portfolio or some other form of media. They were done up in such a way that it was almost impossible for me to get an impression one way or the other. Daenerys for example just looked like some pretty little girl that I'd see at the mall. Obviously that will be changed for filming, but I'll have to reserve judgement until I see them in character.
*edit* I'm also disappointed that Sean Been has been cast as Eddard. I wish he had been cast as the Dog, or Roberts brother. It's just a shame that his part won't be very large (depending on how fast they move through the story). |

ok harry lloyd playing viserys targaryen is going to be mad hard for me to watch. he had SUCH an ... iconic? part in doctor who. i won't be able to watch him and not start thinking about the family of blood.

When I read the books I always pictured Robert as Brian Blessed (I think) when he was the king in the first season of Black Adder.
