I hate when people give their list of favorites but they don't have the balls to list one book (instead of series or an authors complete works) nor are they will to put them in order.

I am not one of those wishy-washy people.

1. Hyperion Cantos - Dan Simmons
2. Time Enough For Love - Robert Heinlein
3. The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss
4. Kushiel's Dart - Jacqueline Carey
5. For a Few Demons More - Kim Harrison
6. Magic Strikes - Ilona Andrews
7. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austin
8. Catch-22 - Joseph Heller
9. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
10.Assassin's Apprentice - Robin Hobb

The question is, do you have the intestinal fortitude to make a stand on your favorites?

(Note that Hyperion is not cheating because it is impossible to separate the books in my mind. That is not a loop hole for you to exploit)

1. Dragonsong - Anne McCaffrey
2. Mindkiller - Spider Robinson
3. Dreamweaver - Jonathon Wylie
4. The Number of the Beast - Robert Heinlein
5. The Chronicles of Mavin Manyshaped - Sheri S Tepper
6. Good Omens - Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
7. Stardust - Neil Gaiman
8. Ship of Magic - Robin Hobb (I could easily have called in the Hyperion loophole here but chose to pick one random Hobb book instead )
9. The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss
10. A Storm of Swords - GRR Martin

1. name of the wind - rothfuss
2. going postal - pratchett
3. making money - pratchett
4. good omens - pratchett/gaiman
5. the codex alera - butcher (as far as i'm concerned it's just 1 book broken up into 6 shorter installations)
6. harry potter books despite the last one being some of the most boring reading ever
7. reaper man - pratchett
8.
9.
10.

i'm having a problem with 8-10 because i can't remember what i've read. i'm also quite lazy and am not in the mood to find my nook and go through the books on it.

edit: and yes it goes without saying that i think terry prachett is a god and discworld is my favorite world in existence. despite rothfuss being my #1 choice. and i realize wise man's fear isn't in the list and that's because it was quite boring and suffers from middle book syndrome. i suspect, however, that when the 3rd book is released that i will treat the trilogy as one book and the whole thing will be my #1.

i have not yet read the hyperion books but they're on my list. i don't think they were available for nook or kindle the last time i checked. hopefully they will be the next time i'm ready for some scifi goodness.

Man this is hard.... I tend to think mostly in series, i have read so many 100's of books that it is hard to remember or narrow it down. Here is some off the top of my head. Prob influnced by what I have read recently.

1. Serpent War Saga by fiest
2. The whole assassins apprentice series by Hobb
3. First 6-7 books of the wheel of time
4. The name of the wind
5. The way of shadows
6. Mistborn series.
7. The black prisim
8. Codex Alera
9. the The warded man
10. A game of thrones.

That was really quick, I am sure I will think about it and feel stupid for putting down the wrong stuff later.

Look at how baller I am:

11. Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
12. Warbreaker - Brandon Sanderson
13. The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
14. A Storm of Swords - George R.R. Martin
15. Jhereg - Steven Brust
16. Friday - Robert Heinlein
17. House of Chains - Steven Erikson
18. Mistborn - Brandon Sanderson
19. Angel's Blood - Nalini Singh
20. The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice

The one qualifier, I tried to keep it to one book per author in the top ten and no more than two per author in the top twenty. When it comes down to it, there would be more Heinlein.

Really? I mean....really? First there's a complaint that holding a book is uncomfortable some time back and now it's "baller" to list favorite books? Good christ man, how much did you get beat up in school. Seriously.

holding a book is hugely uncomfortable compared to holding an ereader.

The fact that you take Yoss this seriously is astounding.

1.) A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
2.) Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
3.) The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
4.) The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon (The version I read was all three in one volume, so counts as one)
5.) The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
6.) Act of War by Dale Brown
7.) Without Remorse by Tom Clancy
8.) Codex Alera by Jim Butcher (Like Cao -> one book split into 6 parts)
9.) Legion By Dan Abnett (Horus Heresy Series)
10.) Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind(Yes, I know many, many people hate this book but I personally liked it)

There are obviously many more I probably would have picked, but as a rough 1-10 this is pretty close.

I liked wizards first rule... the series did not start to suck until later.
