I bought and read the Assassin trilogy, and I'm never getting anything else by her 
NOT my style at all.
The Assassin trilogy put me off her too, I couldn't stand Fitz I got half way through the third book and never finished it (very unusual for me, the only other book I abandoned was an Innocent Mage and I've read literally hundreds of fantasy books). I've heard good things about her other books, but one bitten twice shy...

Meh, if you read The Tawny Man, a lot of it ties together nicely. I read that then went back and read the liveship trilogy, and I can say that if I had to give one favorite series it would be those 9 books (closely related enough I'm just going to count them that way).

no book has ever depressed me the way this series did. like it literally effected my life by making me depressed as HELL for days.

I love Hobb's books. The magic systems and the liveships are really cool concepts. I encourage you to keep reading.

i tried to. i think i got about halfway through before i gave up due to being bored. it took me like a month of reading it 2 pages at a time and then leaving it for something else.

Fitz gets the crap kicked out of him more then any other char I can think of off the top of my head... he can sure take a beating lol.
The tawny man ties everything up and will make you feel a bit better.

I've read tons of reviews of that book, both good and bad, and the only thing I've never heard said about it is boring. I guess there's a first time for everything.
