Note: I said "enough"
I can watch animated frogs sing and dance and enjoy this.
That in the future people are going to go rape a moon for some rocks.
Or that a long time ago in a galaxy far away some crazy stuff happened.
I even talked myself into enjoying Revenge of the Fallen.

But man kind being conquered by arm biting/face scratchers is silly because it's supposed to be in a realistic setting, I also find using primal fear of the dead cheap. Then again I guess they're not dead any more, they're just infected.

Shaun of the Dead is the only Zombie movie I didn't hate by the time I got to the end of it.

The military represents a relatively small portion of our population and requires intricate supply chains and command/control to function for extended periods of time. Add to that the fact that a portion of the military itself will become infected and you have a real breakdown in the chain of command.

I don't doubt apache pilot wouldn't kick some serious ass while he was in the air but he would require a secure base to operate out of and access to fuel, munitions and parts along with the trained personnel to handle them. Same for a tank. Those things go through gas like you wouldn't believe and require a considerable amount of maintenance and support.

Yeah anyone can survive for a time. Build a fortified position, use heavy machinery, stockpile supplies, etc but you will eventually have to go out and that is where the problem lies.

Don't get me wrong a lot of it is far fetched anyway but it isn't beyond belief. It is the blood crazy horde vs intellect. That is part of what makes it so compelling to most people. The "what if" of a complete end to society as we know it and a return to survival of the fittest and kill or be killed.

Then again some people don't like oysters and I love them, lol. To each their own. If everyone liked the same things and did the same things the world would be a very dull place.

Pretty much the reason you like it is the reason I hate it.

It's so much easier to insult someones intelligence rather then make a coherent point explaining why you enjoy the movie.

For me there are levels of suspension of disbelief. Once the world and tone is established, I go from there. A movie may have flying ninjas from space, but something small like the plot hinging on an incredible coincidence could bug me. In the case of zombie movies, usually most aspects of the destruction of the civilization happen offscreen. You either get newscast footage explaining the major beats, or you get it in microcosm, like in Zombieland, where we experience it through the main character's eyes only. I don't mind that a movie lets us imagine scenarios for things like why the military isn't more of a presence (maybe they decided to hole up in bunkers for the duration of the outbreak), because you could take ten movie lengths explaining every little thing. You want to get to the meat of the movie, so to spea. In this case, you had the four characters, and how they came together as a family, you had the action and gore, which was very well done, and you had the comedy, which was pretty damn funny. As a whole it accomplished everything it set out to do.

What an excellent analogy. *golf clap* It's really one of the few movie genre's where I can shut down my disbelief and just enjoy the movie.
Also, it might be that I was raised during the height of the survival craze and just find thinking about 'What if' scenario's fascinating. Plus it never hurts to have a plan in place for when the unthinkable happens. Those shows on cable called, "Life after People.." are quite interesting as well.
The other thing about zombie movies is that they are usually low budget affairs so in a way you get a more passionately made film where others it's just low budget & bad. Oh and back when I was a teen, zombie movies always equaled some hot chick screaming across the screen showing off her boobies.
