Hey everyone, I just saw an old topic on this forum and read thru it unfortunatly it was closed and the issue never solved, I have the exact same problem and it is only while playing Daoc, I quadbox wow, run SC2, with a movie on the 2nd monitor and HoN running in the background without the slightest bit of lack / cpu problems, but entering DAoC .. the computer can black screen in 5secs, or if I enter it slowly, dont zone 2 fast dont tab out close all background things I can run it a while longer.

What strikes me funny was reading thru the other post, that dude has the exact same problem and I have already tried:

New ram, Older drivers, Vista/Win7 ulti OS. Clean install, format.

Specific Information I'd like to share ; Went over to a friend cos he had the ram and different OS I could test out, when Win7 was installed with new drivers it ran for a while with no problems then crashed, we tried taking out 1 set of ram then testing them and swapping the problem persisted, then we tried his and it worked for like 1hour or something, and unfortunatly at that point I was out of time and had to drive off,

We thought we fixed the problem since it didnt occur in 1h with me duel boxing DAoC alt tabbing like a crazy using 2 accs, when I later came home I booted up the pc and realised I didnt have any sound because I only brought the pc and a monitor for the check, so X-fi fatal1ty extreme soundcard drivers got installed and the problem occured instantly..

Dunno if this has anything to do with it, or some old files still stacked on the comp but as it struck me the sound drivers / card might be the reason I removed it from the comp along with a driver uninstall.

At that point the problem occured again everytime I entered the game,

The second important info is that I tried to log into the game on a toon and alt tab, doing so I could sit on the desktop, watch a movie listen to music, play another game, no problems at all
but at the exact second that I maximized daoc INSTANT Black Screen of Death <--- .. this was a test cos I had a hunch that it was gonna happen and it did.

Saying so I also expect it to be some acceleration problem with graphic or virtual memory clocking up, I have little technical knowledge of computers so I have no clue on pinpointing the problem, this has persisted thruout the last 2 weeks and so I thought it was about time to stop reading forums and opening one myself since I've tried almost everything they surguested on every forum.

Hope you guys can help me solve this mystery
Thx in advance

Here is a link of the other dudes Topic its detailed in what problems I am experiencing aswell

Did the game run at your house without the sound drivers installed? I recall that I frequently had issues with the sound card/sound drivers interferring with other things. My mouse really strikes home as it would cause the little blinky box issue.

Try running the game after you uninstall the sound card and it's driver. Physically take the card out of the machine. Use the onboard if you have to have sound.

Oh, by the way...that brings up another item. Is the onboard sound disabled in the BIOS if you are using the add-on sound card?

Just went into BIOS and disabled the HD Audio onboard sound, problem still appearing will try and remove the other soundcard and remove drivers in a few, gonna let u know what the status is then

Note, I also went into H_KEY Regs and tweaked some win settings, after doing that if I am on skype with ppl I can hear them for like 20-30secs after black screen starts then the comp looses all feedback, so its like the comp is still working for some time after the BS before tapping in h_keys it would instantly cut skype / any sound on the pc

Alright newest update, removed soundcard and drivers no change

Went into regedit : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\AudioSrv and changed start values which disables all sound on windows entirely so it isnt a sound issue either

starting to think it is something else, 2 components maybe that when interacting with eachother causes the black screen, I am all out of ideas now

Tried everything I could think of that has been posted on other forums aswell

Kinda thinking its something so small or common that I've missed it, the most incredible thing is the other 15forum threads I've read with ppl also having this problem and still no one has come up with a solution.

Persoanlly, I had an issue with the sound card and the network card but it wasnt enough to black screen me. My mouse would just start acting funny. It was a shot in the dark. Sorry it didnt work.

Did you try uninstalling video drivers and then reinstall the video drivers and DX. You don't have alchemy installed?

in hardware manager device listing, show devices by IRQ. see if anything is sharing IRQ with vidcard, soundcard, network card, USB. those are the major ones i've dealt with. once you have the IRQ listing, and if two or more of those major devices are sharing the same IRQ, disable (preferably totally remove from the system) one of them and try the game again.

in the past, i've had to disable entire USB chains to free up IRQs, move nics/soundcards to other slots to free up/change their IRQs and so on.

good luck
