Is there even such a thing as a cheap gaming keyboard? I think the best you will be able to get is a cheap keyboard you can use for gaming.

Slim as in low profile or as in compact?
I have the Microsoft Arc Keyboard.

I don't actually use the keyboard itself for gaming, but I use it while gaming. I have a Belkin N52TE and pretty much assign most of my keyboard actions to that, then use the keyboard just for chat or other keyboard commands I don't use as often.
The nice thing using the N52TE with a small keyboard is you have the N52TE on the left, the mouse on the right, and having a small keyboard in the middle means your hands don't have to be as spread apart as they would be with a huge gaming keyboard.
However if you aren't using an N52TE, I probably wouldn't recommend the Arc Keyboard as your gaming keyboard... though I can't think of anything compact keyboard that would be any better off hand. |

I currently have the wireless one right now, it's thicker because of the battery, but overall a fairly nice keyboard.

I have the Lycosa's non-illuminated little brother, the Arctosa, and as far as I'm concerned, I'll never own anything other than a Razer keyboard again.

and im totally opposite. after owning the lycosa, i'll never own another razer product again. that keyboard lasted me about 16 months from original purchase. the return key, spacebar, period key and tab and shift on left side of keyboard (obviously alot of wear on these keys) all failed. to the point my pinky finger got sore just trying to push the shift key. and forget about trying to take the keys off the board and trying to clean it. almost impossible to get them seated again properly.
the razer mamba was a POS mouse too. (bought at same time as keyboard) Could never get more than about 8-10 hours of use out of it before battery was dead, and the mousewheel squeeks constantly, drives me nuts. my friend has same mouse, and has same problems as well.

The Mamba is a POS, no question. Its the worst reviewed Razer product that I'm aware of. I've had zero problems with my Death Adder (2 + years of HEAVY use) or my Imperator. I'm not sure what problem you had with the keys, they just push back into place?
And yes, the Arctosa is just as thin as the Lycosa. Low profile keys, very satisfying clicks. I've had mine going on about the same amount of time as the quoted poster without issue and it is used for hours, daily.
